Walking Blind

Walking Blind

Often the path of our life is rough, rocky, and impossible to see around the next bend in the road. Even though it feels as if we are walking blind we are never alone. God has things well in hand and will send myriad signs to show us He is in control.

2MefromHim Devotional

Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” Isaiah 30:21

Life is changing faster than I can keep up. A complicated medical diagnosis, a sudden job change for my husband, giving up beloved ministries, family matters requiring time and travel—my life feels upside-down and inside-out. I’m walking blind.

I cannot help but see God’s hand in the unfolding events, but still I struggle. Waking up in the early hours of the morning with my mind in a whirl is me not trusting God to bring good out of situations He is obviously arranging. Daily, God challenges me, removing everything I lean on except Himself.

A list of the changes proved to be a lesson in God’s goodness and provision. My husband needed a job change and within three weeks, he had a better one. Just prior to his decision, I decided to visit specialists in my condition. Now I have a diagnosis from top specialists before our great health insurance changes to not-so-great.

I struggled with helping elderly family members when a man from my uncle’s family contacted me and offered to help. I resisted giving up the Bible study I led for over 13 years. Two weeks later, a woman came forward to start a new Bible study. When we met, she said the three words capable of convincing me this was from God.

I prayed about how to tell the doctor he was missing a huge component of my problem. That night, he called after consulting another doctor and said he was modifying the treatment plan. The changes addressed my concerns in every way.

Life is hard, lonely, and painful because God is calling me out of my comfort zone and into greater Walking Blind 2trust in Himself. Things are good, comforting, and hopeful because the changes are occurring in ways only an all-knowing God could accomplish. God is taking the head knowledge from 21 years of leading Bible studies and turning it into heart knowledge. Of course, I gained heart knowledge during those years, but now I am free of the constraints of a lesson and my life is the classroom more than ever.

Scary. Wonderful. God.

Whatever you face today, rest assured God is working for your ultimate good. If you’re walking blind, I invite you to join me on this road of trust, watching for God’s hand in every detail. There is freedom in knowing God is in control.

  1. Norma, I can relate to this so much! What a wonderful God we serve. Lessons in His sovereignty are tough, but life changing. I’m so thankful He is proving Himself faithful to you.

    • It’s nice to know others share our journey of faith, isn’t it, Nan. Nothing is as reassuring as recognizing God’s hand in our circumstances.

  2. Being called out of our comfort zone is painful and glorious all at the same time. For me, it took God stripping away all that was familiar to realize that He is all I need. You and your family are in my prayers!

    • Thank you for the encouragement and prayers, Sherry!

  3. Love this Norma. Honest, open, positive and upbeat. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this. 🙂

    • Aww, Marcie, you’re sweet! Thank you! I am seeing God work in amazing ways. I’m glad you enjoyed it!

  4. What a wonderful affirmation of your faith. The timing of this couldn’t be more appropriate for me. I’ve just completed a piece I’ve entitled “The Ultimate Counselor”. I want to share it, but don’t know where might be best. Any ideas?

    • Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed my devotional. That is always such an encouragement! As to where to share your writing, a lot depends on the length and genre as well as your intended audience.
