For a romance writer, I am not very creative when it comes to Valentine’s Day. However, the most romantic times I remember have been the times when my husband and I stayed at home for a candlelight dinner. I did some research on creative and inexpensive ways to say “I love you.” I’ll give you my top five favorites and then present an opportunity for you to win a great Valentine’s gift for a special woman in your life.
- Since Land of My Dreams contains some of my original poetry, I like the idea of writing a poem for your spouse, printing it on pretty paper, and framing it. I did this for my husband for our 25th anniversary, and he loved it. He’s not that into poetry, but the fact that I took the time to write it and frame it meant a lot.
- Fill a jar with chocolates and notes rolled up and tied with red ribbons. Each note should be redeemable for things like backrubs, and kisses, or a special activity to do together. You can also write down a special memories and notes telling what you love about your spouse.
- Find someone to watch your children and spend a quiet evening alone together. Fix a special dinner or plan and cook it together. Spend some time looking at your wedding album and sharing memories, or watch a romantic movie while you enjoy a special dessert.
- Have dinner at a restaurant where you had your first date or that has special memories for you. If the weather is nice, take a walk and talk about when you first fell in love. Tell your spouse about all the things you love the most about them.
- Spend a day doing something that your spouse loves, even if it’s not your favorite thing. The fact that you care enough to do it with them will mean a lot more than any gift you could give.
