I AM

As clear as the night it happened, I remember giving my life to Jesus Christ, Savior and Lord of the world, the second member of the Trinity, the Son of the great “I AM.” If you are searching for God, for peace, for help–perhaps my experience will help you. I was seventeen years old and my heart was broken. I sat in the dark on my bed alone and crying. I had only recently learned about a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Invisible in the dark, my mind retained the picture of Jesus with blood coursing down His face from the sharp thorns. I had torn it out of a youth magazine and hung it on the closet door, as I realized for the very first time that Jesus understood my pain. Jesus had suffered too—and I cried out for Him to take away the hurt. I remember the almost tangible presence of the Lord Jesus, there in my darkened bedroom—there inside my grieving heart.

When Jesus said, “I Am He” the soldiers sent to arrest Him fell back in fear. They understood that Jesus claimed to be the great “I Am,” the God of the universe. The armed men fell back because the Name of God has such power; power to heal all our pain and sorrows, power to forgive our sins. That Jesus had become my friend.

I had accepted Christ as my Savior, but on that that night I accepted Him as Lord. I surrendered control of my life. In that moment when I reached out to Jesus, a new life was born. Jesus Christ set my feet firmly on a path of lifelong service to Him—a life of being blessed by Him. Even in my darkest trials, I know He is with me.

The great “I Am,” Lord of all Creation wants to be the Lord of all we are. Jesus waits for each of us to open that door to our heart and let Him come in. Open it today.
