For Dirk – A Wedding Anniversary Poem

Thirty-nine years ago tomorrow, I married my best friend, Dirk. He is still the love of my life. I wrote this poem for our 25th wedding anniversary. It’s still true! 

 

 

Wandering Wednesdays

We were so young

When we took our vows;

I loved you then,

But so much more now.

I prayed a prayer,

God gave you the part,

Only you

Will ever claim my heart.

Love was a feeling,

A thrill, and a hope,

To love and to cherish”__

A promise we spoke.

We could not know,

When we exchanged our rings,

All the joys and pain

The coming years would bring.

I walked down the aisle

To my very best friend__

If time could turn back,

I would do it again.

You are my love and my joy,

Our great God has blessed;

I treasure your faithfulness

Through the many tests.

In your love I have felt

How Christ loves His Church;

“In sickness and health…

For better or worse”.

We were so young

When we took our vows;

I loved you then,

But so much more now.
