The Peace of Jerusalem

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:May those who love you be secure.” Psalms 122:6
I am not the most faithful in praying for Israel. This is something I will change. Though our prayer lists are always long, we should never forget the things God has specifically commanded us to pray for—the nation of Israel is one of those.
In Zechariah 2, God calls Israel “the apple of His eye.” In Genesis 17, God established His covenant with Israel. Though scattered across the world, God promised in Ezekiel 11: “’Thus says the Lord God: I will gather you from the peoples assemble you from the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.”

Do you pray for Israel? Do you urge our politicians in Washington to give strong support to Israel when their enemies come against them time and time again? In the passage in Zechariah, God say, “’for whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye—I will surely raise my hand against them…’”

Christians did little to stop the Holocaust of World War II when over 6,000,000 Jews were put to death. If we fail to support them, God will raise His hand against us. We must support the Jewish people as those God chose out of all the nations to be His chosen people.

If you’re like me, you pray when there is a major uprising of the Palestinian terror organizations against Israel. But our prayers need to be every day.

Palestine has never been a country. Israel has existed since Genesis 12 when God promised Abraham that He would give him the land He would show to Him. I am convicted that I do not do all I should to support and pray for God’s chosen people—the people to whom He gave the Scriptures, and from whom He chose to bring forth His Messiah, Jesus Christ.

As we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Savior, let us not forget the people He wept over before His death: “’O Jerusalem, Jerusalem…how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings…”

Let us make a point to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem,” and for those who have kept safe the word of God so we might have it today.
