The Nature of God – A 2MefromHim Devotional

The nature of God is visible in the world He created. Tainted by sin, yet filled with unceasing wonders, God’s creation still reveals His glorious being. In light of Hurricane Harvey and the devastation that has dominated the news, pause to reflect on some of God’s greatest wonders and the relationship He longs to have with His creation. I would love to hear your thoughts!

The Nature of God

There the ships go to and fro, and Leviathan, which you formed to frolic there. Psalm 104:26

The Nature of God scripture

In the midst of hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, and man-made disasters, it is easy to lose sight of a loving God who longs to have a personal relationship with each individual. The disasters of a fallen world are not contradictory to His nature; rather, they should draw man to God for help and strength. In this time of havoc and uncertainty, pause to consider the nature of God.

The incredible creativity, diversity, imagination, and loving nature of our God amaze me on a daily basis. He reveals His existence and power through the diversity of nature. The book of Genesis shows God kneeling in the dust to form man with His own hands, gently breathing life into his nostrils. At creation, God called everything good. He created man in order to love him and to be loved by Him in turn.

We can see the nature of God in the playfulness of the animals He made. I love the YouTube video of a man kayaking in the open ocean when a Blue whale, the largest mammal ever to exist on earth, comes up alongside. With great care, the man lowers himself into the water and films this amazing creature, which grows up to 100 feet long and weighs 200 tons or more. Imagine a heart the size of a car and tail flukes 25 feet wide.

The nature of a God who would create such an amazing animal for the pure joy of it has to be beautiful. Our God delights in His creation. When the world spins out of control, He longs for me to run to Him as a child runs to a father for love and comfort. Rather than a hard taskmaster who cracks the whip and demands obedience, God’s word says He wants me to know and understand as much of Him as possible.

The Nature of God

Ponder this. The Creator of the universe sees me (and you) as special. He wants us to know Him. His word is full of instances that display His tender love. Looking at the world through a biblical lens shows me a God who wants me to draw near and allow Him to care for me.

Whatever trial you face, take time to think about a God with the ability to create and control, yet who chooses to love and be known by mere humans. Bring your cares to Him and allow Him to provide for your needs, because He delights in you.
