Love God’s Way – A 2MefromHim Devotional

Love God’s way. What does it look like? What does it feel like? Can I give it? I would love to hear your thoughts!

Love God’s Way

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! 1 John 3:1

1 John 3:1

Love God’s way is true love, the real thing, unadulterated by human frailties and subterfuge.

1 Corinthians 13:4

Love my way, man’s way, may or may not be love. As the author of love, the embodiment of love itself, no one has the right to define love other than God.

1 Corinthians 1313b

I know what makes me feel loved and what does not. However, I cannot define love apart from its creator. 1 John 4:8 says, “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

1 Corinthians 13:8

As humans, we have many definitions of love. Christians who claimed they were doing something out of “love” have hurt me many times. We each have our own ideas. Therefore, we must look to the author of love as the only one to define it. We must learn to love God’s way.

1 Corinthians 13:5

John wrote about love more than any other New Testament writer. In fact, he referred to himself as “the disciple who Jesus loved”. He wrote the most famous verse in scripture, John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” He then wrote in 1 John 3:16: “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.” There we have our measuring line, the clearest definition of love possible, laying down our lives for others, not because they love us, not because they behave or look a certain way, but out of love God’s way.

1 Corinthians 13:6

1 Corinthians 7

Jesus gave us the greatest commandments in Matthew 22:37-39: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.”

1 Corinthians 13:5

I have to examine myself for motives. Do I show others love God’s way or love in my own imperfect way? I don’t want to be that “resounding gong or clanging cymbal”.

1 Corinthians 13:1

Lord, teach me to love your way, to give out of the love you have given me, to show love God’s way, every day.

Matthew 22:37-39

1 Corinthians 13:13a
