God’s Glory by Wendy Macdonald

Wendy Macdonald is a new friend who writes beautiful poetry and prose, often based in nature surrounding her home in British Columbia. God does not share His glory with anyone.

I enjoy witnessing the transforming power of the Lord in the before and after story of a person’s life. For several years, I regularly listened to a radio program called: Unshackled. It was a captivating show that featured the personal testimonies of folk who came out of darkness into God’s redeeming Light.

That’s something I can relate to.

I didn’t experience a crib conversion to Christ. But thankfully I didn’t wait for a one-toe-in-the-grave conversion either. And since becoming a believer, my most earnest and heartfelt prayers are for the salvation of loved ones, as I long to witness a God-powered transformation in each one of them too. I wish for it so much that sometimes I feel like an impatient child hovering over a chrysalis:

Lord, I want to see the butterfly now. What’s taking so long?

But, God’s timing and mine are rarely in synch. And any manmade attempts to speed up the process would be as harmful as assisting a butterfly out of its chrysalis. The butterfly needs to go through the arduous journey in order to prepare its wings for flight. A true born-again experience happens because of the Holy Spirit’s work inside a person’s soul—not from the outside.

Manmade conversions are religious instead of spiritual in nature. The religious person will not soar on wings; it will flounder in the mire of legalism and rituals. It will not be Spirit-filled, Spirit-powered or Spirit-led. So, in the meantime, I pray, watch and wait while I witness the painful process each person must go through before reaching maturity.

God’s in control; He doesn’t share His glory.

I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. Ephesians 3:16-17 NIV

Brand New

My old self was a sinner of a worm

I crawled on my belly low to the earth

God’s truth I’d often ignore and spurn

Until the Spirit brought me new birth

And with true faith I was turned around

No longer lingering in shadows dark

My old self was buried in the ground

As I rose on the wings of a brand new heart.

  3. Like the butterfly analogy. Wendy is right. We shouldn’t try to “save” loved ones from the process God deems fit for leading them to true conversion.

    • Thank you, dear Edith. It takes the pressure off relationships when we remember it’s God who converts. But we can sure pray up a storm behind the scenes as love and faith motivates us to. 🙂

  6. Hey Wendy and Norma, sorry I’m a bit late to the party. I really enjoyed your post. It is hard to wait on God’s timing especially when it comes to wanting family and friends to receive Christ. I’m often struck at how different my life might have been had I not received Him at so young an age. In fact, I have talked to my husband many times about the difference between growing up with Christ and not because he wasn’t saved until he was in his 20’s. So it’s quite the contrast but one that is still illusive to me to fully comprehend. Thank you for this inspiring and thought provoking word.

    • Thank you, dear Marcie. I have to admit I feel a twinge of envy over your early years with Christ. Yes, I would have avoided much foolishness if I had walked with God sooner.
