Daughter of the king. Doesn’t that have a wonderful sound? What little girl doesn’t long to be a princess at some point? A recent quiet time reminded me that I am, indeed, the daughter of the King of the universe. I pray this reminder encourages you!

Daughter of the King

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! 1 John 3:1

I don’t often feel like the daughter of a king. The responsibilities of life make me feel more like a slave than Cinderella. The mirror reveals bags under my eyes and perhaps a spot of dinner on my shirt, not the picture of a princess.

John says God gave those who believe in Him the right to be called children of God; therefore, I am His daughter. Whether rich or poor, I am the child of the King of Kings. I have siblings who also love Him. He sends His Holy Spirit to lead me. I wait in expectation for my Father’s return, like and eager child waits at the window for “Daddy” to come home from work.

I am “blameless and pure,” shining in the midst of a “warped and crooked generation…like stars in the sky.” God has given me a message of love for the world in which I live. What a gift to share the joy of the Lord with the hurting people around me! Like royalty, I can walk through this world in beauty and grace with a message of hope and acceptance for those who struggle, even though it’s often difficult to picture myself in that way.

My Father lavishes His children with love, even though the world doesn’t recognize Him. I am an honored woman and He is enthralled with my beauty (Psalm 45). He sees the me that few others see, the me others don’t even know exists.

Though I have not yet seen my Father the King, because He has been away for a long time, when He returns, I know I will be like Him. He will recognize me as His own because His letters say so.

On days when I feel wounded, like an outcast, lonely, and afraid, cowering in my corner of ashes, I can contemplate what the daughter of the most powerful king in the world should be like. I possess the inherent right to be regal, powerful, confident, joyful, a peacemaker, an overcomer who is loyal, faithful, and seeks above all to bring honor to my Father’s name and reputation.

Life gets me down at times. I forget whom I belong to and what privileges being the daughter of the King confers.

If you’re struggling, look into God’s word. His family includes sons as well! So polish up that crown, and let’s act like the royalty we are!
